British Council Hikes Up IELTS Price to N139,000

The British council, for the second time in 5 months, has once again hiked the price of IELTS (International English Language Testing System) but this time, by 29% from N107,500 to NGN139,000 starting February 1st, 2024.
Nigerians that intend to take the IELTS exams will now have to pay this new sum of One hundred and thirty nine thousand Naira for the Computer Academic and General Training Modules.
This increase in price of IELTS, which is currently one of the major requirements for schooling abroad in most English speaking countries would once again increase the price of Emigration from Nigeria for those who intend to use the school route.
Recall that just five months ago, that is , September last year, the price was increased from NGN80,000 to NGN107,500 by the British council.
This increment was announced officially on their website and the reason the British council gave was that this increase came as a result of increased cost of delivering their exams in Nigeria.
The official announcement from the British Council is quoted below:
“We would like to inform you that there has been a review of our IELTS fees. The new price list of the IELTS range of tests offered by the British Council will be effective for registrations on or after 1 February 2024.
“The new prices will be: IELTS on Computer Academic and General Training Modules: ₦139,000
“IELTS on Paper Academic and General Training Modules: ₦134,000; UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI): ₦149,000; Life Skills: ₦130,000; One Skill Retake (O.S.R): ₦87,570
“The change in price is associated with the increased costs in the delivery of our exams. This will enable us to continue to offer a wide range of services and comprehensive support to enable you to achieve your goals. Thank you for choosing the British Council.”
